In her last outing of the year, Juxtapose put up with me and all of my ridiculousness at the Haunted Hunter Pace at Fox Run. It was the first cold weekend of the year, the morning starting with a wind chill of 19 degrees. Elizabeth Frey with her 4yo Irish Draught mare and I had been toying with the idea of going, but were not planning on dressing up. The day before we confirmed we were going, and even got motivated enough to come up with costumes. After buying paint, brushes, and scouring the dress-up chest, we ended up with an ensemble later dubbed "Mardi Gras Skeletons." The young horses were great sports with the jingling mask and capes flying, and marched up and down hills, through a creek, and over/under/through all of the scary Halloween decorations the Blair family spread out.
In the end Elizabeth, Ruby, Juxtapose, and I won best costume in the hill topper group. Juxtapose also won the inaugural Flying Monkeys award out of around 70 horses. To quote Lora Blair, owner of Fox Run, the award is "in honor of the late TB William Wallace "Alfie" who loved to romp and run in many Haunted Hunter Paces here. This year Juxtapose exemplified extraordinary mature behavior at the event for such a young horse!"
